Levi Kinsel: A Navy Sailor

During the era of 1939 to 1945, there were multiple different sailors in the navy that experienced difficult times such as World War 2. One of the sailors was named Levi Kinsel, who has been writing to his love one, Rose B. Kinsel living in San Diego. Throughout Levi's letter that my classmates and I transcribed, I believe that he showed multiple different personalities and these major personalities are dedicated, companionly, and considerate.

Levi showed us that he was dedicated throughout his letter for Rose, his loving wife by showing his affection to her when tough times strikes him. For example on letter forty-nine, Levi stated, “I guess I had better tried to send the things I have for you while I am here it may be some time before I see you.” This quote shows Levi is facing multiple difficult obstacles such as going through peace during the war and especially sickness. These proves that no matter what Levi is going through, he finds his way to communicate with Rose and update her with what is going on around him. Another example that Levi was dedicated is on letter four from March 30, 1939. He stated, "I will send that stuff to you in a few days but I don't know just when I have to go to the post office to send it and office is only open during working hours. I have a lot of work to do again now." This quote shows that Even though Levi had a tough schedule, he still managed to send her the package that she needed and also responded to her in a heart bit.

Another personality that Levi showed is companionly. Levi portrayed this personality on letter forty-nine from August 11, 1945 where he stated, "How are you and "sandy boy"? I would sure like to be there." This quote shows that he not only knew Rose from San Diego, he also knew some other people and this portrayed even though they can't be with them physically, he still wanted to checked up on them. Also on letter fifty-one from August 28, 1945, Levi stated "Well I have been busy but have written you letters you should have before now. I sent two pkgs. a week ago sent them first class so you should have them by now." This shows that even with the navy taking most of his time, he still manages to write back to Rose.

The last personality that Levi portrayed in these letter is considerate which means careful to cause inconvenience or hurt others. On the second letter from April 25, 1939, Levi stated, "I wish I could see you, I haven't been ashore yet, don't believe I will go either. I hope you are ok I guess you will be trying your money about feb. 1st I drew 25 today so I think we got rations up to the 10th." This shows that Levi was trying his best to support his wife even though he's facing financial problems in the navy.

In conclusion, Levi Kinsel was a hard working man who was serving his country for freedom and living and constantly supported his love one in his best ability. Where we found out that he was a dedicated, companionate, and considerate person after transcribing the letter that he wrote to his loving wife Rose.
